Seems like 2014 was THE YEAR OF THE COPYRIGHTS. They did an EP on Fat, a couple tours with The Lawrence Arms, a Summer tour with 7Seconds, and even a Euro run. But now their new firework-themed full-length, Report, has arrived and it’s getting some big-time press and some 5-star reviews. Fuck yeah, says we. Be sure and check out the new album and support these downstate droogs. And don’t forget: it’s fireworks plus punk. If you’re gonna blow your fingers off or launch a bottle rocket outta your ass crack, this is your soundtrack.

Up next will be something that we’ve been working on in secret for over a year. Not a hokey “surprise album” like those hacks Timberlake or Beyonce, OH NO, this is like the Manhattan Project meets Flex Your Head meets… Ummm, SURPRISE, guys! It’s called Red Scare Industries: 10 Years Of Your Dumb Bullshit and Punknews posted a buncha info about the compilation. There’s 17 new songs from all your favorite Red Scare buds and you can hear it in September. Vinyl should be ready in time for our big ol’ 10-year bday bash on October 25th in Chicago. This thing took a lot of patience to put together, but we know you’re gonna love it. If you don’t, I fucking quit. Seriously. Okay, just kidding!

And yo, for our next news update we should have some new bands to announce. Far fucking out, man.

So the word is out, the main event of our 10th Anniversary Weekend has been announced and it’ll take place at Metro in Chicago on Saturday, October 25th. Tickets are a mere $24 (and can be bought here, ahem!).

I wanted to do a bit of a Q&A to answer any questions some of y’all might have about the weekend. If you wanna follow up or contribute, I’m gonna make a thread in the forum and we can suss it out. Take it to the message board, gang!

Q: HOW MANY BANDS ARE WE TALKIN’ ABOUT, TOUGH GUY?

A: While we love all the bands on Red Scare, we had to limit it to “core” bands that have done at least one full-length and one other release. By our count, that’s 17 bands. We think there should be 12-14 bands on this main Metro show, so that’s like 2 bucks a band. Sweet, right?

Q: HA HA, YEAH RIGHT. 12-14 BANDS ON ONE SHOW? HOW ARE YOU GONNA PULL THAT OFF?

A: I appreciate your concern, pal, but labels are infamous for spending money on dumb shit, at least this is for a kickass party that the bands and show-goers will appreciate. This will cost the label and couple/few thousand clams on flights and whatnot, but it’s worth it. Pay us back with high-fives and smiles. And yeah, I’ll say it: we’re gonna get a keg or two. Clive Davis or Jimmy Iovine never thought of that shit…

Q: WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND, YOU SHIFTY SUMBITCH. THAT’S LIKE 8 HOURS OF AMAZING ROCK BANDS…WILL THERE BE “INS AND OUTS” AT THE CLUB?

A: Calm down, sheesh. YES, there will be ins/outs that day at Metro. It’s pretty special circumstances and we’re stoked that they’re working with us on this. You rascals will have to behave though, alright? I assume when you’re asking about “ins and outs” you mean the building? Because that could be interpreted… never mind, you will have access to food and fresh air, of course.

Q: WHAT OTHER “SPECIAL” STUFF COULD POSSIBLY BE GOING ON ANYHOW?

A: Man, why are you being such an asshole with these questions? Oh wait, *I’m* writing the questions?! Weird. Yeah, we will probably have some side shows and they will probably be at Gman Tavern. There might be a movie or two involved as well. It’s six months away and we’re still planning, but we wanted to give our friends from Australia and Europe time to get over here.

Q: SORRY, I GET CARRIED AWAY. HOW CAN I HELP?

A: Funny you ask! I was thinking of introducing the “Red Scare Adopt A Band Program” for the weekend. Normally when bands come through Chicago they stay on our floor and couches, but there’s too many for this glorious weekend. Do you have a clean and quiet place to stay and can you cart around a buncha helpless, horny band folk? Then get at me, cuz we need your help housing these beautiful artists. Or better yet, maybe you have a hotel hookup or wanna donate a room for the cause? Now we’re talkin’! Definitely get ahold of me then!

Q: IS DAVID FUCKING JONES GONNA BE THERE?

A: Depending on who you ask, DJ might very well be the first artist on Red Scare. Be a real shame if he wasn’t in attendance. Smart money says yes, but we don’t wanna spoil any subsequent announcements, ya dig?

Hey, did you know that Red Scare turns 10 this year?!? We’ll be doing some special stuff in 2014, but for now check out these new releases we’ve got comin’ at ya…

Coming May 6th we’ll have the long-awaited vinyl versions of Nothington’s Lost Along The Way and Brainless God from Direct Hit!. Click on the aforementioned links to grab those records from Interpunk. Both those LPs went into production last Summer, but ya know, that shit takes forever to make. Excuses, excuses! You gals and guys should also know that sometime down the road we’ll be releasing a box-set version of Brainless God that will include a DVD, a comic book, and god knows what else. I dunno if you know Woodsy from DH! or not, but he’s a fuckin’ NUT.

Maybe you heard that Brendan Kelly and Sam Russo are doing a split EP? Yep, Split The Tip is two songs from that goofy-haired Chicago bartender and two more songs from a Brit that looks like a spell-casting greyhound… and it will also be out in May! Our Sam has been very busy playing shows over in Europe, but soon enough we’ll be dragging him over States-side for some shows here too.
