The Brokedowns post new songs and tour dates!

We’ve been talkin’ up this record for a while and it’s time to deliver, kids. The Brokedowns new album is entitled Species Bender and it’ll be available through digital retailers like iTunes and Amazon on September 7th and it’ll be in proper record stores on September 14th.

What you need to know NOW is that they have posted two new songs over at The Brokedowns MySpace. Soon-to-be-putrid-basement-classics like “Celebrity Death Panel” and “I’m A Ritual”. Hits, I tell ye! We’re super, super stoked on this new record, so hopefully you’ll check out these new songs and be compelled to dance around like we do. Close the curtains first though, cuz I’ve seen many of you dance.

In related news, The Brokedowns have also posted a string of dates around the album’s release, including a wild record release party at Ronny’s in Chicago. You can learn about them and many other shows over in the tour dates section. Dust off your dick and get out to a rock show, eh?!

Holy website!

Now that 2010 is here we figured we better get up on this whole internet craze. Our old site was pretty laughable, but this new one (also laughable) at least has album info, tour dates, an online store, a message board, etc. A big, BIG debt of gratitude goes out to Sean from ILC for being so helpful and patient with this new site.

I’m stoked that we have a complete discography in the “RELEASES” section; and in the spirit of good ol’ fashioned punk rock community, we’ve set up a forum that has a book club and a section (The Red Army) about how you can help promote Red Scare bands and get involved in the label. We’ll see how that shit works out, but I figure it’s worth trying to bring some people together that share a mutual interest in these silly bands.

We also have a Red Scare webstore and we’re selling all CDs for $8 or less. With very reasonable shipping rates too, I might add! After a few weeks we’re probably gonna bump the price all the way up to 9 bucks, so take advantage of these wild and crazy prices while you can.

So this is it: redscare.net v2.0. Have a look around.

5th Annual Red Oktoberfest: Propagandhi, Cobra Skulls, Brendan + many more!

Hey folks, I hope this announcement finds you well. 2010 has been one of the best years for Red Scare, and I can’t believe how well things have worked out for the label’s yearly showcase: the 5th Annual Red Oktoberfest. So yeah, I’m stoked and I’ll tell you why…

First of all, this year we will be combining Red Oktoberfest with Chicago’s Riot Fest. If ya can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right? Here’s what’s up. First of all, the Riot Fest guys extended a very awesome and gracious invitation and those guys know how to run shit. All the people there and all the volunteers have been nothing short of super cool towards any of my friends and any of the bands I work with, so I’m honored to be able to work with them this year. The other thing is that I am getting married at the same time that all this crap is going down. And of course, I can’t just get married like a normal person. No, we decided to do something that is apparently unlawful. Not for some deep “corollary of love” bullshit, or some wild nonsense I came across in “I Wrote Her Name Upon The Strand”. No, nothing like that. We’re just doing it cuz we’re stupid, so be sure to come visit us in jail.

Where was I? Oh yeah, Red Oktoberfest and Riot Fest in 2010. It will be on Thursday, October 7th at Metro. Here’s the lineup for our show:

Propagandhi
Cobra Skulls
The Copyrights
The Brokedowns
Vultures United
Brendan Kelly (solo acoustic)

“Hold on, Francis. Did you say Propagandhi? They’re not on Red Scare!” I know they’re not on Red Scare, they’re smarter than that! I’ll tell you this much though: Propagandhi are in my opinion the most vital punk band of my generation and their music and words are what motivated me to do good things within underground music and start Red Scare. I can’t think of a more perfect band to headline a Red Scare showcase and I ain’t just sayin’ that because they agreed to play it (after a month of serious begging).

So now you see why we’re all so excited, right? It’s gonna be a great show, and we hope to see you there!
